1968 Ferrari 365GTC
1968 Ferrari 365GTC

1968 Ferrari 365GTC - S/N 12315

Many, if not most, of you may be familiar with this car, since I (Bob Lebenson) have entered it in nearly every FCLV show for the past four years. It won Best of Show at the first Northern Trust event in 2005. It has been awarded Platinum status (under Ferrari judging standards) twice at Concorso Arizona, as well as at Northern Trust. It was awarded Best in Class at the inaugural Las Vegas Concours d'Elegance in the fall of 2006, and was shown by invitation at The Quail in Monterey in 2007.

As well as its show quality, it is also a marvelous driver, as several FCLV members will attest. There are detailed service records available from the previous owner from the late 1980's on, as well as from Italy Service since 2004. I would love to have it find a new home in southern Nevada.

The 365GTC was the immediate successor to the 330GTC, which has been called (in Fitzgerald's and Merritt's book) "one of the finest all-around Ferraris built". Approximately six hundred 330GTC's were built from 1966 through mid-1968. The 365GTC's are much rarer; the general consensus (Ferrari Market Letter and Cavallino Magazine) is that there were a total of only 150 manufactured from mid-'68 to the end of 1969.

The principal change between the two models was the replacement of the 4.0 liter V-12 engine in the 330GTC with a 4.4 liter V-12 in the 365GTC. Other changes included replacement of the brakes and the fuel system. The 365GTC offered fairly significant performance improvement over its predecessor. Visually, the main difference was the removal of the air vents from the front fenders and placement of them on the hood.

The car is under consignment at Motorcars of Las Vegas, and is available for inspection there. There are a large number of pictures of the car on their web site, at http://www.motorcarslv.com/detail-1968-ferrari-365-gtc-2970615.html .

The asking price for the car has been reduced to $305,000. By way of comparison, the most recent auction sale of a 365GTC was at the RM sale in Monterey in August, 2008, where a price of $325K was realized. To my knowledge, though, that car was not of platinum status. However, my reduced price recognizes the changes to the economy over the past several months.
